Candle Safety FAQs
Q: Why do I have to burn my candle for 1-4 hours the first time?
A: Coconut Wax has memory and the first burn sets the tone. During your first burn you want to allow for the wax pool to melt evenly across the whole top of the candle edge to edge. This will ensure an even burn every time after, all the way through.
Q: Do I really need to keep the wick trimmed, and why is it important?
A: All candles regardless of the wax will give off various levels of soot (black smoke). Candle Chemistry candles are made with high quality coconut wax, premium and essential oils, as well as natural cotton wicks. As a result our cotton wicks must be kept trimmed to minimize soot. Wicks must be trimmed to 1/4 in. between burns, and blown out and trimmed if the flame flickers, smokes or becomes too large.
Q: Why is it important to center my wick before trimming?
A: All candle rated jars are made to with stand the head of the candle. However, a lit wick that is too close to one side of the jar could cause it to crack, and/or break. This is also a reason why you should never leave a candle unattended, as well as out of reach of children.
